This is a very large, active group of commited unschoolers with many activities for children and families and even parents. Visit their webpage to get a tour.
One of several local chapters of Illinois H.O.U.S.E, this group serves the west side of Chicago and neighboring suburbs. It is an active non-sectarian group of 20 or so families with kids of all ages. Visit the webpage to find out about ongoing activities.
Chicago Homeschool Coop (CHC) aims to provide community and support for
homeschooling and unschooling families in the Chicago area.
CHC is an inclusive group. We welcome members regardless of their religious beliefs or non-belief. Our members are diverse in our homeschooling styles, philosophies, race, ages, and experiences.
We value this diversity and aspire to learn and grow with our children by sharing our time, resources, skills and interests. As we strengthen our community within the group, we also hope to participate meaningfully in our larger community.
We call ourselves a co-op because members cooperate to provide enriching experiences for their children and themselves. Each member participates as much as they desire and are able.
Activities include group play, field trips, park days, and member-led learning activities, classes and experiences.
To become a member of the CHC, we ask that you live in Chicago (or near suburb) and be homeschooling your child(ren) full time. (or If your child is pre- school aged, you are intending to homeschool.
Our yahoo group is not a “discussion list”, it is for communication between members and is restricted to active members. We ask that you come to a meeting before you join the yahoogroup.

Chicagoland, Matteson, Northwest indiana. They are acting locally and thinking autodidactically.
Christian Chicago Area Relaxed Educators- A place for Christian unschoolers to meet. They have kid meetings, parent meetings and plenty of field trips.
I would like to add a group to your list. We will soon have a website for our group (which I will just e-mail you when it’s set up). Our group is CCARE–Christian Chicago Area Relaxed Educators. This is a group for Christian families who believe in delight-directed, Holy Spirit driven learning.
Chicago Area Homeschool Field Trip yahoo group is for field trip and classes announcements only. There is at least one, and most of the time more field trips any given week. You can go on as many or as little as you choose.
I’m also trying to start a group for home schoolers that like to use skateparks, I think once I get about three more people that we would also try to meet weekly.

I am trying to start a Christian homeschool group for homeschoolers who live in the Chicagoland area or Indiana and who are willing to travel to southeast/south Chicago for support group meetings/activities.
