This blog is for all homeschoolers in Chicago and surrounds. It is here as a link for new and experienced homeschoolers to find out what is happening in town for homeschooled kids, from homeschooling groups, news, classes and events, to tips and resources. The blog is created by Ken of Kenwardtown and managed by Kim of Relaxed Homeskool. It has no religious affiliations and does not limit itself to the happenings of any one group or association.

If you’d like to post local homeschooling news on Chicago Homeschool Habitat on a regular basis, please contact Kim or Ken to be added as a blogger. If you have a local event, resource or class you’d like to share with others, please contact us as well. There is of course a fine line between promo and advertisement, and it is up to the discretion of the blogger whether or not to post. Please make sure that your information includes as many pertinent details as possible, and list a contact name or email. Do not put your announcement in a comment field, but rather send it to us so we can give it a full posting.

I was just wondering if you have had any issues with getting teacher discounts at the store. I am told repeatedly that I need a school ID to get a discount. Obviously, as a homeschooler, I don’t have an ID. I am afraid to make one too because I don’t want them to think that I am lying. :o) I am a former public school teacher with an active license. Any advice on that?

    Susie,
I have had issues but the state doesn’t issue homeschool ids and like everything else, most of us just do it ourselves. With computers today it isn’t hard to design one, but if you prefer you can use the Homeschool Coops version here:

Once we made our own id no store has turned us away. The CTA has though!
