My homeschooling support group has many wonderful activities and I thought I’d share this month’s newsletter so you can consider joining us. Thanks to Lori N. for writing the newsletter!

All homeschoolers or those interested in homeschooling are welcome.

No peanuts or peanut products at meetings or events, please.   Also, please avoid wearing fragrance.   Members, please inform guests when you invite them.

We meet at the Forest Park Library at Jackson and Des Plaines on the lower level the second Friday of each month.   We have a temporary new start time due to library use scheduling.

12:00 –    1:00 adult meeting opens

We talk about homeschooling issues and topics (formally and informally), announce current and upcoming events and classes, and discuss group business.  See the Activity and Resource Listings for more helpful details about the meetings.

InHome Conference

Mark your calendars for March 7 & 8, 2008 for the InHome Conference.  This is a well attended conference sponsored by HOUSE for parents and children.   To get a good idea of what these conferences are like, go to http://www.homeeducatorsconference.org/ to check out last year’s offerings.  The site also indicates this year’s location which will be St. Charles, IL.  This year’s offerings will be posted in time for registration.  If you have never received a mailing from InHome Conference or your address has changed since last year, please go to Alice’s post http://groups.yahoo.com/group/westsidehouse/message/3598  and click on Portia O’Laughlin’s email address there to send her your information.

Wisconsin Unschooling Conference Sponsored by H.O.M.E.

Removing the School Glasses: Seeing the World of Unschooling

Winter Break Yoga & Chakra- Teen Workshop

Ages:  6th-9th grade

Ridgeland Common Noon Skate

Brookfield Zoo Opportunity

The program coordinator at the Brookfield Zoo wants to reach out to the homeschooling community to develop programs.  If anyone would like to be involved in meeting with the zoo and developing a meaningful, multi-age, affordable program and potentially get our kids involved as future volunteers and docents, contact Kim Campbell at kim@relaxedhomeskool.com

New 2nd Writers Workshop

Friday Writers’ Workshop

Ages:  5-12 year olds (younger sibs welcome)

When:  (F) 10:00-11:30 (10:00-11:15 on WestsideHOUSE meeting days), starting Jan. 11

Where:  Kathy G.’s house

Parent Participation:  parent attends and mentors child

Fee:  “chip-in mug”  Chip in for materials your child uses.

Description:  The class would begin with a suggested project idea and time for writing and then end with sharing.  An optional lunch to follow (contact Kathy for details).

Westside Roots & Shoots

Upcoming activities:  January trips- Fullersburg Woods nature center, a potential for skiing at Sagawau in Lemont, and Eagle watching at Starved Rock.


For the most up-to-date information, contact the individual classes and clubs’ organizers or websites directly.  For the more informal get-togethers [such as park days, the play group, (or teen group & Molly Malone’s)], it’s a good idea to post on the Yahoo group about going.  It’s also a good idea to check your email shortly before leaving for an event in case of any updates.

One person attended the meeting, so the meeting was canceled.

Treasurer’s Report

No treasurer’s report was given at this meeting.  However, dues are now overdue.

$12 dues are due to Karen Wiebe for the 2007-2008 year.  Please contact Karen at kwiebe@sbcglobal.net so you can make arrangements to pay her.  Please let her know if you have financial need so an adjustment can be made your dues.
