For children of all ages! Sign up now!

From Pam Z.

Hello everyone,

I finally found a place to hold this workshop! We need a big turnout, so
please pass this along to all your fellow homeschoolers and post this to
other homeschooling groups that you think might be interested. This is for
children of all ages; younger kids will need an adult to help them, older
kids/teens will be able to do it with minimum help. I apologize that this
post is so close to the event date; finding a place to host this was a
little challenging!

Date: Thursday, November 15, 2007

Time: 10.30 am – 1.30 pm

Place: Gurnee Community Church

4555 Old Grand Ave
Gurnee, IL 60031
(847) 336-2392

www.gcchome.org

Cost: Basic drum is $25. There is also a $35 and $75 drum. Please click
here for more info http://www.buildadrum.com/workshop_fees.html. If you
need help deciding which drum is right for you please e-mail Stan Secrest at
stansecrest@att.net. There will be a $2.50 charge tagged on to each drum
order to cover the cost of using the church. Depending on the number of drum
orders we get, this might be more (perhaps a $1 or two) or less (in that
case, you’ll get a refund), but we’ll take care of that on the day of the
workshop.

Instructor: Stan Secrest (he’s coming all the way from New York.so
don’t miss him!), http://www.buildadrum.com/index.html

Payment: Please e-mail me at pzelinka@comcast.net and I’ll e-mail you back
as to where to send your check and the amount. In the e-mail, please include
your name, the name(s) of your child(ren) and their age(s) and which drum
you’re interested in. Make the check payable to Stan Secrest.

Comments: Parents or mentors are also asked to be available for support
throughout the three hour workshop. Please e-mail me if you have any
questions or concerns.

Thank you all for your time. My son and I look forward to making our drum
together with all of you!

Regards,

Pam Z (Green Oaks, IL)

Below is an excerpt from the Build A Drum Website:

We start in circle and create our special place together. After a brief
story about drums and drumming, our mini-ashiko drums pick us out!

The kids spend the next hour sanding and painting special symbols on the
drum shell. Creativity and imagination are highly encouraged throughout the
workshop, but especially here!

After the drums have had a chance to dry, Stan works with each young drum
builder to attach the drum skin head.

When all the kids have completed their drums, we gather in circle once more.
Here we learn just a little bit about the different tones available form
each drum and our first song together.
