Here is a message from Cheryl at Emily Oaks Nature Center describing details of their much lauded homeschool program:

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I just wanted to keep you all posted about the progress of planning for the fall here at Emily Oaks.  We’d like to invite your 4-5 year olds to be a part of our Nature Neighbors class.  In the spring we ran the class Tuesday afternoons for homeschoolers.  This fall, we have selected Wednesday afternoons.  If Tuesday is preferable, there may still be spots available, just let me know.  Nature Neighbors is a 2 hour class once a week that focuses on the three neighborhoods here at Emily Oaks–field, pond, woodland and the plants and animals that live in those neighborhoods.  The content changes seasonally.  The fee for 10 weeks is $155.  The starting date is September 12th ending November 14th, 2007.  Class description is below.  If possible, please let me know if you are interested by Friday, September 7th.  I can advise you of registration procedures once you express your interest.

Exciting opportunity for Homeschoolers!
Nature Neighbors early childhood nature class at Emily Oaks Nature Center for Homeschoolers 4-5 years old (without adult)

Become a Nature Neighbor at Emily Oaks Nature Center!  Your child will be invited to explore the many wonders of the pond, prairie and woodland “neighborhoods” in spring and will be introduced to some of the amazing animal neighbors that live there.  Activities change seasonally and include games, stories, songs and craft projects to help your young discoverer get to know the exciting world outdoors.  Snacks are provided.  Weather permitting, a major portion of each class will take place outside.

Emily Oaks Nature Center is a 13-acre natural area in Skokie located at 4650 Brummel St.

I also wanted to let you know that plans are in the works for the fall/early winter Scoutin’ Around classes.  For those of you that are not familiar, Scoutin’ Around is our homeschooling program for children ages 6 and up that focuses on getting in touch with the natural world and learning outdoor skills.  Please note that these classes will not be every week and will start further into the fall than Nature Neighbors.  For the most part, these classes will be Wednesday afternoons as well and depending on the class content, will run from 1-3 pm.  I would also like to offer some homeschooling family mini-events this season.

If you have any thoughts about topics, please let me know.  I’d appreciate if you could pass this information on to anyone else who you think might be interested.  Please contact me via e-mail or phone (847-929-7525) with any questions.  Thanks and have a great weekend!
